ICONS (2019-2021)

Each Icon combines images derived from actual events, fiction & movies, and recent purchases as a hybrid form held together by an internal gravity. The formal logic for these compound shapes borrows from a video game called Katamari Damacy in which the player rolls a “sticky” ball around picking up random objects in an effort to get bigger; growth through consumption at an exponential rate. Through their encapsulation of specific memories into depictions of complicated arrangements of commonplace objects, the drawings engage ideas of excess, consumer culture and its environmental impact, and accumulation as an expression of identity.
